The benefits of bamboo clothing: discover why it's an eco-friendly choice!

Updated: Jun 8, 2023

If you're looking to adopt an eco-friendlier lifestyle, have you thought about your wardrobe? Bamboo clothing is an option to consider. Discover why they are an eco-friendly choice, their advantages for sportswear, and how to care for them.

Advantages of bamboo clothing

Bamboo clothing is soft like nothing else, comfortable, and lightweight. They are also very durable, which means they will last longer than cotton or polyester clothing. In addition, they are naturally antibacterial, which is ideal for sports clothing that needs to be washed frequently. Which translates to less bad smell in your sports bag! Unless you leave your stuff in it for a year, but you get the point.

Eco-friendly advantages of bamboo clothing

Bamboo is a renewable resource that grows quickly. Remember that bamboo clothing is antibacterial? This comes from the plant itself. It, therefore, does not require fertilizers or pesticides and can be grown without artificial irrigation. As a result, bamboo clothing has a lower carbon footprint than cotton or polyester clothing. In addition, the production of bamboo clothing requires less water than the production of cotton clothing, about 4 times less water. Still not convinced? Bamboo also produces 35% more oxygen than cotton. Can we ask for more?

Why are bamboo clothes used in sports and training?

Bamboo clothing is very breathable, which means it allows air to circulate around your body and keep you cool during training. They are also lightweight and stretchy, which allows for optimal freedom of movement. Finally, their antibacterial capacity helps prevent unpleasant odors during intense training sessions. However, they do not replace antiperspirants!!!

Care and maintenance of bamboo clothing

Bamboo clothing should be washed in cold water and air-dried. Avoid putting them in the dryer, as this can damage the fabric fibers. In addition, do not use fabric softener, as this can clog the pores of the fabric and reduce its antibacterial effectiveness.

But be careful!

Bamboo does not equal absolute

eco-responsibility! It is a greener option than cotton and polyester, but you

still need to choose the right type of bamboo! Bamboo viscose is the most

common type in the world of clothing. However, this type of bamboo chemically

transforms the fiber with non-recyclable and damaging products for the fabric

fiber, losing its antibacterial attributes. Bamboo linen is a mechanically

transformed bamboo fiber. However, it is a very rare, expensive fiber that is

not ideal for a garment due to its thickness and difficulties in giving curves

to pieces. It is mainly found in bedding. Finally, bamboo lyocell is a balance

between viscose and bamboo linen. It is a fiber transformed with recyclable and

gentle products for the textile.
